Swords down in centre quarrel

PACHAMAMA Education and Childcare staff are ready to put quarrels with the City of Kalamunda behind them with the centre opening an extension to the Lesmurdie premises next week.

The two-and-a-half-year battle involved the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT), lawyers and numerous public and confidential council meetings.

The latest meeting, held last week, saw council go behind closed doors again to reaffirm its June 2018 decision to approve an increase in the number of children under care and modified operating hours, with a change of conditions, for Pachamama’s existing centre on Marri Crescent.

The new extension at the adjacent site on 59 Coolinga Rd was at the centre of a Citylodged Supreme Court appeal in objection to the SAT-permitted change of use from residential to child care.
